Host promised 99.9% uptime, I measured 97.2

Guys need your eyes on this.. been tracking my Hostinger VPS with UptimeRobot whole year. They promise 99.9% in SLA, my logs show 97.2%. Thats like 10 days downtime total. I opened ticket asking compensation and they hit me with TOS clause saying "scheduled maintenance" and "events beyond control" dont count. But heres the kicker.. every outage was labeled one of those two. Even a 6 hour blackout last month was "unplanned scheduled maintenance" lol. Anyone got leads on providers that actually honor SLA? Or is this standard scam across low end market? 🙏

Went down again. Ticket open. Waiting. Same host. No reply in 72h. Considering chargeback.

Your measurement methodology matters here. UptimeRobot checks from multiple vantage points, but if the host's SLA defines "uptime" as "ability to route to anycast anycast address regardless of actual service response," that's a measurement mismatch. I've seen providers exclude anything they can classify as "network maintenance," which they define as any BGP session reset. Check if their SLA specifies HTTP 200 versus mere ICMP echo reply. Also verify whether their "scheduled maintenance" windows are published in advance per RFC 3339 timestamps. Most low-end operators lack IRR entries for their AS anyway, so RPKI ROAs are probably invalid or missing. Without valid ROAs, their routing instability could be upstream rather than their own infrastructure, which they'd certainly classify as "beyond control." The real question is whether their transit blend includes any Tier 1 with published SLAs

If they logged your service interruptions and attributed them to "events beyond control," they may have processed personal data without adequate transparency. Article 13 requires them to inform you of the specific legal basis for any processing. Have they disclosed what data they collect during these "maintenance" events? I would request your full service log under Article 15. German providers are more diligent with this, but the law applies regardless of where they are incorporated.

Since 2 days I try to get my money back lol. They say "force majeure" for everything, even when their datacenter just.. how you say.. too hot? Mdr. I think it is possible to do that? No, not possible, but they do anyway 😅. Now I use KnownHost and its better but not perfect. Bref, good luck with your ticket

The two-dot thing is catching. Even here. Anyway

. But also. Who reads TOS before buying. Nobody. Thats the trap. They know. @Fritz48 your GDPR idea is clever. Might actually work to pressure them...

Unplanned scheduled maintenance is an oxymoron though

airgapped, encrypted, faraday'd, still worried
