I signed up for RackNerd's "Basic VPS" advertised at $6/month USD. My card is USD-denominated. My statement shows $6.47 with line item "conversion fee." I opened a ticket; they claim their "bank partner" adds this to all transactions.
This makes no sense. The service is priced in USD. My card is USD. There is no currency to convert.
I have found six similar cases across two threads here. This appears to be a systematic surcharge, not an actual conversion process.
Why pay for this obfuscation when you can self-host? A docker compose stack on any spare hardware, reverse proxy with traefik or nginx (https://traefik.io), and you control every cent. No phantom fees. No bank partner excuses.
I am drafting a collective complaint to the payment processor. Who else has documentation? Screenshots with dates help. I will compile.
No more throwing money at middlemen who invent costs.
