The builder... Oh man. 🏃

I make it my mission to test these things. Five providers, five "free" builders. Here's the speedrun:

  • Contabo: white-label Weebly. Drag-drop works. Export? NOPE. Lock-in city.
  • OVHcloud: white-label Weebly AGAIN. Different skin, same prison.
  • RackNerd: white-label Weebly THIRD TIME. Starting to see a pattern.
  • Hostinger: custom builder. Broken on mobile. Tables don't render. Support said "use desktop." In 2026??
  • GreenCloudVPS: SURPRISE. Actual export to static HTML. ZIP download, clean files, no watermark.

GreenCloudVPS's export likely runs through a sanitization layer. Check for CDN dependency injection. Some builders embed beacon scripts that phone home even in "static" exports. Filtering layers matter. Anycast for the hosting, scrubbing for the builder payload.

Yes the Weebly WhiteLabel Syndrom is wellknown in the Hosting industry no I do not trust the Free builder offers the LockInEffect is the BusinessModel byDesign the CustomBuilder from Hostinger sounds like the Self developed nightmare with the TechnicalDebt and the Mobile rendering disaster the GreenCloudVPS Export functionality is interesting but I must see the Source code quality and the CSSFileStructure before I give my Approval yes

Back in 2009, "free website builder" meant Microsoft FrontPage extensions on a shared host. They don't make them like that anymore. I ran a FrontPage site for a client until 2017. The forms broke, the hit counter died, but the HTML still rendered. These modern builders? Proprietary blobs. GreenCloudVPS's export reminds me of that old reliability. Static files, no server-side lock-in. That's the spirit.

Hostinger custom builder is very bad I make a test last week and my menu disappear in the phone. But GreenCloudVPS is surprise yes. I export my test site and open in my localhost with XAMPP and WORKS. The HTML is clean, the CSS is separate file, I can edit in VS Code. Is very good. I will use for my cousin bakery website!

Has anyone actually checked what GreenCloudVPS puts in the ZIP beyond the visible files? I ran strings on one export and found a commented-out analytics stub. Dead code, but still.
