We rolled out a major HostPeers platform update overnight. The highlights:

  • New markdown-aware editor with live preview.
  • Dark mode is now system-aware and has a manual toggle in user settings.
  • Search backend was swapped from the old Sphinx setup to a self-hosted Typesense instance on a cheap Contabo VPS. Early benchmarks show ~3x faster query times on thread titles.

Known quirk: signature images are temporarily stripped while I fix a path-handling bug with the new CDN rewrite rules. Plain text signatures still work.

If something looks broken, drop it in this thread. I'll batch-fix over the weekend.

Nice, dark mode actually works at 3am now instead of burning my retinas

Anyway I was poking the search and found something weird

Idk why I do this but that NaN on hit 4 seems wrong. Happens every time with 4+ results. Not a big deal just thought id mention before I forget and go back to benchmarking my $3/yr box

Dark mode is nice but did you check ram usage on that typesense thing

I run 52 boxes and I can tell you search eats memory for breakfast. My smallest OVHcloud 512MB NAT instance would choke on this in about 5 minutes. Hope youre not hosting the index on something smaller than 2GB

Also signature images I had a gif of my rack cabinet in mine. Guess ill go plain text for now

Hey folks

Thanks for the reports so far. @tallinnying good catch on the NaN, I can reproduce that too. @hankels the index is on a 4GB KVM so we should be fine, but ill keep an eye on it.

To keep this on track: if you find a bug, one post with details is enough. No need to bump for visibility, admin reads everything in this category.

Also friendly reminder that signature images will return once the cdn path bug is sorted. No eta but its top of the list.
