Five years on the same $10/year box

Five years today on the same €4/month box at Hetzner. Bought it august 2020, some celeron J1900, 4GB DDR3L, 500GB rust. Still pulling 23W at the wall measured with a kill-a-watt.

I've shipped pallets of gear since then. Whole generations of xeons came and went. This little guy just... stayed. No ipmi, no redundant psu, no rails. Just a supermicro mini-itx in somebody else's rack that I have never seen.

Toasting with cheap beer tonight. What's your longevity record?

Thank you for being part of this community, and congratulations on the milestone.

We do want to note that $10/year pricing was part of a promotional experiment during our early days. The hardware you're on has been running well past its expected lifecycle, and we appreciate your patience with the single-digit megabit throughput during peak hours.

We'll have more to share about our infrastructure roadmap in the coming weeks.

Five years of logs, five years of cron output, five years of dmesg warnings I redirected to /dev/null. The host that cannot be killed, only piped to a new process.
