Five years on same Hostinger $3.50 VPS

March 21, 2021: signed up with Time4VPS €3.50 KVM, 1GB RAM, 20GB SSD, one IPv4.

Today: still running. Uptime 1,847 days. I've seen consolidation in this space, brands absorbed, prices after a sale — that's the worry with anything budget. Time4VPS is still Time4VPS. I noticed nothing. Route changed twice.

--- 2021 traceroute ---
 7 45.9.2.1 34.2ms (Time4VPS, AS206092)
--- 2024 traceroute ---
 7 89.44.3.2 28.1ms (Time4VPS, AS206092)
--- 2026 traceroute ---
 7 185.60.1.1 22.7ms (Time4VPS, AS206092, different upstream)

Route via Cogent in 2021 added 12ms. Route via Telia in 2026 saves 11.5ms average. Same €3.50. Same disk image from 2021, kernel 5.4. I should patch. I will not.

What runs on it? DNS and feelings.

1ms or I don't want it

The hosting world is cruel. But here, a little miracle. Five years, same price, no drama. I have seen ten providers die in this time. Time4VPS to Hostinger, they did not kill the old nodes. Respect.

Network okay.

1.847 days is 159.580.800 seconds. Still paying $3.50. Inflation makes it $2.80 in 2021 dollars. Hostinger losing money. Wonder why they keep it.

Right then, I'll be honest—we didn't exactly plan for these legacy Time4VPS boxes. Proper headache in billing, actually. Two separate automation stacks. But cheers lads, the old KVMs are on a Dell R630 we can't be arsed to decommission. Power draw's embarrassing.

Keep it quiet or finance will notice.

Let us consider that five years of kernel 5.4 may expose one to known vulnerabilities. I apologize for raising this concern. It is merely that I feel responsible to note such things when I see them.

Hey folks, this is super stoked Five years on a box? That's commitment. Gonna be real, we tried to migrate a legacy fleet at InterServer last year and broke like 40% of them. Took three weekends to fix. Hostinger did it transparent? That's. Major respect.
