Hey folks — Celebration: finally migrated off cPanel, saved $45/month
Six months ago I was paying $52/month for a cPanel license on a single Leaseweb E3 box running 12 WordPress sites and a handful of static generators. Today I'm running Hestia on Debian 12, same hardware, $7/month total. Here's the journey:
- Month 1: Broke DNS three times, 6-hour outage
- Month 2: SSL automation via acme.sh, finally stable
- Month 3: Migrated email to Vultr (IMAP, not self-hosting that)
- Month 4: Discovered I never used 80% of cPanel features
- Month 5: Friend asked for help, realized I actually understood BIND now
- Month 6: Deleted cPanel backup archives, freed 400GB
The $45/month difference covers my secondary backup node at RackNerd. Total win. Happy to share my Hestia migration notes if anyone wants them
