¡Is very common this trap! ¿Why they sell this garbage? I have same, adapter from random shop, drive die in 6 months. Jajaja. Is very bad engineering. Now I am only buy metal bracket with rubber, or 3D print. Better spend 10 euro more than lose data. Jajaja serious now.
3D print your own bracket, use silicone grommets from hardware store, docker compose your damping strategy. I run 12 drives in a Rosewill case with printed mounts, reverse proxy the vibration away. Actually the reverse proxy doesn't help here but you get the idea. No more premature death.
¡the adapter cheap is the adapter bad! I am make test with the printer 3D and the dampening material. The results: the drive red with the adapter hard dies fast. The drive red with the dampening lives long. Pro tip: use the rubber very thick. I am share the files soon. ¡cheers!
For those staying bare metal:
1. Measure vibration with phone accelerometer app
2. Target under 0.5G at idle
3. Print in PETG, not PLA
4. Use 70A TPU gasket between drive and bracket
5. Torque screws to 3 Ncm, no more
Heads up: cheap adapters often omit bottom support, creating cantilever. Bad for bearings.
