.co keeps getting mistaken for .com by my clients. Dump it?

Small bookkeeping business, been using ourbrand.co for three years. Constant problems: clients email invoices to.com (someone else owns it, we get calls about "missing" payments), one client typed our login portal URL wrong and entered credentials into a phishing clone. I am tired of correcting people.

Did you test your restore if you change domains? I mean — do you have your email archives, client portal configs, SSL certs, all exportable? 3-2-1 rule applies to domain transitions too. One backup on your local machine, one on a different cloud, one offline.

What would you do? Keep correcting people forever?

3-2-1 or you're already dead

  • .com is the default in most minds
  • .co will always have this Problem
  • Your rebrand Options:
    • Pay the 8K
    • Pick a new Name entirely
    • Live with the Confusion
  • I did this once and it was fine
