Right then, hot take time: backups are admission of failure.

If your infra's proper immutable, you don't need backups. You just redeploy. Cattle not pets, yeah? I've been running Hostinger nodes for eighteen months without a single backup job. Chef re-runs, stateless containers, boom — fresh host in four minutes.

I know, I know. "But Lee, what about the database?" If you're still hand-cuddling a Postgres install in 2026, that's on you. Managed or replicated. The backup is the architecture.

PING: bad.route  45ms
PING: reality.route  12ms

Route via "never had a failed deployment" adds 0ms because it doesn't exist.

My prod traceroute last tuesday: 6 hops, 23ms stable. Then fiber cut. Route via "trust me bro" added ∞ms.

Your cattle still need somewhere to graze when the barn burns.

1ms or I don't want it
