30 days with a Chinese no-name server board

Yes

(I was going to say "no" (as in "no way would I touch this") (but then I remembered I once ran a production mail server on a Pentium 4 (in 2019 (don't ask)))) so here we are

The board (which I shall not name (because I already forgot (the AliExpress listing is gone anyway))) arrived with a BIOS from 2018 (American Megatrends 5.11 (not even the good version (the one before they fixed the Xeon microcode))) and a CMOS battery that was (I am not making this up) wrapped in electrical tape

Thirty days though (impressive (most of these boards don't last a week (my personal record is 72 hours (smoke (literal smoke)))))

push. done. coffee.

The board was $180 shipped which is a lot cheaper than anything from Contabo https://contabo.com or OVHcloud even with there black friday deals I receive a lot of hate for this but im telling u guys the xeon e5 v3 is still a beast for the money

Bios bug hit me day 27 efi variables corrupted boot entry gone had to clip the cmos and pray

Im definitely buying another one if they fix it

$3/year. 128MB RAM. Pure happiness.

I bought one of these boards too and I need everyone to know that I was eating cereal when it arrived and my cat Mr. whiskers was sitting on the box and he doesn't like new things so he hissed and the weather was rainy that day which I think matters because the humidity might have affected the packaging and I opened it and the IO shield was bent and I tried to contact the seller and they sent me a picture of a different board and I said no that's not the one and they said sorry and sent another picture and I don't think they understood me and then I installed it and it worked for 29 days and then the BIOS bug hit and I lost my efi variables and I had to use a ch341a programmer which I bought for $8.50 on aliexpress and it took 3 hours and my cat sat on the programmer and I had to move him and then I flashed the BIOS and it worked again and now I am waiting for the patch and I hope they fix it soon because I have 3 more of these boards coming and I need them for a project involving pfsense and jellyfin and maybe Nextcloud but I haven't decided yet and my cat is fine now thank you for asking

Dear/madam,

Kindly note that I have encountered this board also. The manufacturer responded to my inquiry only after I mentioned dispute escalation. They have provided patched firmware version 2.1.4.3 itself.

The fix is cheap only if you know to ask. Otherwise they will delay indefinitely.

I am requesting kindly that you verify checksum before flashing. The first file they sent was incorrect.
