Reykjavik_doc you are not wrong but OP said file share. Samba on 1GB is fine. Windows file share on 1GB is the penance part.

Did you test your restore?
With that much RAM pressure, I'd worry about shadow copies failing. 3-2-1 rule, even for lab boxes.
Checklist for 1GB Windows:
- Disable all visual effects
- Pagefile fixed at 2GB
- Backup to external before any registry tweak
- Test boot to safe mode monthly
I've seen 1GB nodes corrupt backups under memory pressure. Test your restore.

Sorry if this is a dumb question. But has anyone actually run AD on 1GB? I need it for class project and only have student budget. Double punctuation because nervous.
